Through this campaign, Everytown for Gun Safety has come up with exciting and creative ways to make the public want to learn about gun safety. This campaign is primarily directed to gun owners in America, ranging anywhere between 30 to 65 in age.

According to Pew Research center, 48% of Americans believe that there is a gun violence problem that plagues the United States. 53% of Americans believe that America needs stricter gun laws. According to The Sandy Hook Promise, 12 children die everyday from gun violence in the US, while another 32 are shot and injured. The gun control debate has nearly torn our country apart, with opposing and strict views from both sides.

Rather than focusing our efforts on ending gun violence as a whole, this campaign shifts the focus on gun safety and ensuring that those who want to possess a firearm handle and store them as safely as possible. If we cannot abolish weapons on our streets, the next best solution is to make sure mishaps and accidents are as minimal as possible. 44% of parents who own guns state that their firearm is loaded and easily accessible to them in the household. While parents who own guns believe that their gun is hidden away from their children, according to Nationwide Childrens’ almost 40% of unintentional shooting deaths for children ages 11 to 14 occur in the home of a friend.

Although guns are kept in some households to protect the family, it is evident that it can cause more harm than good. In the past, the goal for gun reform campaigns were to get firearms off the streets and out of the hands of civilians completely. Rather, this new campaign gives into accepting guns in our society, only if they’re handled with the safest measures possible. Not enough gun-owning parents understand the dangers of keeping a loaded firearm in their house, especially with children running around and playing with their friends.

Through research, it is evident that more measures are needed to lower the accidental gun injuries in the household. Although gun-owning parents think that they may know everything in regards to gun safety, there is always more to learn especially thinking about the safety of their children. More education is needed for all gun-owners whether they are parents or not.
